Smile

The Simple Scrapper blog has a weekly journalling exercise, Celebrate Monday, with a prompt to jump start your journalling. I need to work more on journalling my journey, especially if I want to really get down those memories from the past year and a half. Collin is a part of my journey, and as hard as his stories may be, I need to start scrapping them. Hopefully if I can start by getting the journalling down, it will be easier for the page to come together.

This week's prompt is: The song that always takes me back is…

"Smile" by Nat King Cole

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

This song is both bittersweet and hopeful for me, but it helped me through the most difficult time a parent can go through. Collin needed brain surgery when he was 6 months old, and it took 3 weeks... 3 very loooong weeks.... for us to hear back on the results of the biopsy. During those 3 weeks my best friend Missa stayed with me in the hospital, making sure I ate and slept, keeping my mind sane. She would sing this song to Collin when he got cranky and he would calm down right away... and so would I. I still can't sing this song myself without getting emotional.
